2016 GRANT GUIDELINES – (8/15/16 – 9/15/16)
The Center Street Marketplace, Business Improvement District 39, has determined via the 2016 Operating Plan that improvements in facilities in the district will lead to the overall beautification, safety, and security of the properties within the BID district. This determination is the precipice of the grant methodology and structure for 2016.
At this time, the BID 39 Board is implementing the grant program for property or business owners with awards granted up to the maximum amount up to $500.00 per assessed parcel. All improvements and marketing will have a positive impact on the property and/or the surrounding area and must be in compliance with all City of Milwaukee ordinances (to include zoning). The grants are for parcels (and businesses operating within the assessed parcel) that are assessed for the BID 39.

Examples of projects that are eligible include, but are not limited to

  • Marketing and Advertising initiatives
  • Exterior Lighting
  • Shatter Resistant Windows
  • Security Cameras
  • Awnings
  • Signage (in conformity with City of Milwaukee guidelines)
  • Commercial Grade Doors that will improve the façade
  • Internal Projects that will add value to an existing business
  • Other Safety & Security measures that are deemed appropriate

Applicants MUST complete the Grant Application. Applicants should include AT LEAST (1) bid (or outline) for the project applied for. The applicant MUST be willing to accommodate site visits (scheduled) or marketing/advertising material review by the Grant Committee to review/verify the eligibility of the project.

Grant awards are intended to be reimbursable funds. The actual grant funds will be disbursed ONLY after BID 39 receives documentation of the expenses incurred for the improvements. Please be sure to obtain copies of receipts for any expenses incurred related to the project. This is NOT an option.

ONLY work that is begun after BID approval or during the BID Granting cycle is eligible for reimbursement.
***Note – for Marketing and Advertising, the business owner does NOT need the property owners signature.
For all other grant usages, if applicant is not the property owner, the property owners name must be outlined and this individual must sign the application, along with a current phone number and address or provide a letter to accompany the application granting permission for such improvements. The letter MUST also have accurate contact information for the property owner such as a valid phone number so that the property owner can be contacted. The property owner MUST be the actual property owner of record.
Projects should be completed (or verifiable expenses incurred) within 90 days of notice that a project grant has been awarded. BID 39 cannot and will not reserve funds indefinitely, but awardee may request an extension in writing if progress has been made on the project. All grant awards are subject to approval by BID 39 Board. In addition, grant awards are available for project costs up to $500.00 ONLY.
BID 39 has limited funding available each year to provide grants, and grants will be issued on a first come, first served basis. BID 39 reserves the right to end this program and/or to amend the guidelines at any time.
